Sensory Processing in Adults with Serious Mental Health Challenges

CE Hours 1

About this live event

The PCH team is invited to join an engaging and educational session exploring the role of sensory processing in adults with serious mental health challenges. Led by Olivia Levy, OTR/L, this presentation will deepen our understanding of how sensory systems influence emotion regulation, behavior, and functional participation within treatment and daily life. Participants will review Sensory Processing Theory and the eight sensory systems, and learn to identify sensory-based interventions and strategies that can be integrated into our multidisciplinary therapeutic approaches. The session will also introduce the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile, a standardized assessment tool used to evaluate sensory processing patterns and differences among adults — including those linked to specific diagnoses. Additionally, Olivia will discuss how trauma impacts the sensory system and demonstrate ways to apply a trauma-informed care lens to support clients with sensory processing challenges. This training aims to enhance our shared clinical understanding, promote regulation and resilience, and strengthen the holistic, integrative care we provide at PCH.
